Why learn Belly dance?
Belly dance is not just a beautiful art form, it's a full-body workout that strengthens core muscles, builds endurance, and boosts confidence. This graceful dance, set to beautiful music, is an excellent form of exercise and a fantastic way to express yourself and have fun. So let's come together, dance our cares away, and enjoy a gratifying workout that benefits both young and old alike!
Why learn Brazilian dance?
Brazilian dances offer several benefits. They can improve physical fitness, build rhythm, and relieve stress. For example, samba is a fun workout that boosts confidence without feeling like a chore. In addition to physical benefits, these dances provide cultural awareness by showcasing Brazilian traditions and customs. For instance, the Samba de Roda was historically a form of expression for the underprivileged to showcase their freedom and identity. Socially, Brazilian dances bring people together, transcending language barriers and cultural differences. The phrase "tudo acaba em samba" (everything ends in samba) suggests that people can resolve their differences by dancing together.
Are the classes for my level?
Hey there! All our classes are perfect for all levels. If you're already familiar with belly dancing, you'll find these classes helpful for refining your skills and picking up new moves and combinations. Our fantastic instructor, Cristina, has studied many different styles of belly dance and can teach you about unique ethnic styles like Egyptian Oriental, Baladi, and Sharqi. Each class is customized to the people in the room and can be adjusted based on what everyone's into. If you're ready to advance your skills, we'll introduce new classes and workshops to ensure continuous learning and growth.
Belly Dance & Samba
Do students perform?
Performance is optional, but we host several events throughout the year that allow you to showcase your skills. There's no pressure to perform, but most students, even beginners, find it enjoyable and beneficial. As choreographies are integrated into our regular class material, everyone typically knows at least one dance they can participate in when performance time comes, should they choose to do so.
What to wear to class:
Choose clothing that makes you feel comfortable. For the top, it's best to wear something that isn't too loose. You want something you can squat in comfortably. I also recommend wearing a hip scarf so you can feel your hips move. Hip scarves are available for students in class, and we occasionally have some for sale. They can help you become more aware of your movements. Most students dance barefoot and wear half-sole dance slippers, dance sneakers, or ballroom shoes. *No street shoes are allowed on the studio dance floor.
